Youths and supporters of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) in Bulawayo threw a surprise party to celebrate MDC-T Vice President Hon Chamisa’s birthday yesterday.
The youthful MDC-T Vice President, legislator, lawyer and pastor turned 40 years on Friday 2 February 2018.
“Your love makes the difference.I am humbled.May God bless you for such unparalleled kindness,” said Hon
Bulawayo, Real Estate tycoon, Felix Mhaka sponsored the barbeque for close to one thousand youths. To dignify the event, MDC-T National Youth Chairman Happyson “Bvondo” Chidziva was present.
Scenes of happy young people gnawing roasted beef and sausages filled the party offices in Bulawayo. The tycoon afforded clear beer and capped the merriment with an Ingwebu Brewery bowser filled with apaque beer for party goers.
Such is the affection for the youngest member of MDC-T’s presidium.
“It hasn’t been easy for all of us including Vice President Nelson Chamisa. He now leads the MDC Alliance, which comprises Professor Welshman Ncube’s MDC and Tendai Biti’s Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) among other political parties,” said Elliot Jere also known as Junior Cobra.
Hon Chamisa has seen all MDC politics. From the inaugural congress at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex in 2000 right through to the 2014 party congress held at Glamis Stadium in Harare, Hon Chamisa has marched on with the rest of party members and supporters.
While Chamisa miraculously escaped death at the hands of suspected military intelligence thugs, his friend Itai Dzamara, it seems was not so lucky.
On 30 January 2018, former Zanu PF Politburo member, Professor Jonathan Moyo accused Zimbabwe’s military intelligence of disappearing journalist Itai Dzamara on 9 March 2015.
“In March 2015 Mohadi told Government Dzamara was likely abducted and taken out of Zimbabwe in a staged anti-Government plot. That March ED told Parly ZRP were after culprits. It later transpired Dzamara was abducted by MID under Chiwenga, now VP with Mohadi. So ED and his VPs must account,” wrote Professor Moyo on twitter.
The violence, by military, it seems was not only restricted to people opposed to Government. Even newspapers were attacked. On 29 January 2001, the Daily News was bombed by an anti-tank mine. The army was suspiciously not interested in investigations.
On 9 March 2007, he was assaulted with iron bars by suspected members of Zimbabwe’s military intelligence at Harare International Airport as it was called then. In 2008, suspected military intelligence personnel burnt a delivery truck belonging to The Zimbabwean newspaper at the border in Beitbridge. The arson took place after President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who then was leader of the Joint Operations Command leader, stated that “The Zimbabwean newspaper is a threat to state security.”
Such is the environment that Chamisa has survived through maneuver and “blessings.”
Several party members took to social media to express their joy knowing full well that, after attaining 40years of age, the Kuwadzana Parliamentarian no constitutional hurdle bars him from contesting Zimbabwe’s presidential elections.
“Happy Birthday Hon VP Chamisa. You are now old enough to be father of the nation,” said. Zvishavane Senator, Lilian Timveos, who could not hide her joy.
