THE Minister of State for Midlands Province, Honourable Owen Ncube has ordered Kwekwe City Council to return water meters that were removed from different households last year.

Addressing Mbizo residents at the launch of Kwekwe roads rehabilitation at Mbizo 4 shopping centre, Ncube ordered city fathers to return the water meters to their owners with immediate effect.

“City council I want you to return the water meters back to their respective owners, those meters you removed from households, must be returned.

“The owners of those meters must also go to the city council and make an arrangement of payment plans so that they can settle their bills.

“We want those meters to be returned as we go for elections, I am the Minister of this province and I stand for the government, so I want those meters returned,” said Ncube.

City council removed meters from different households last year because of residents’ failure to pay rates.

The city fathers have also installed 300 prepaid water meters in some households, in Masasa Park. Recently, council carried out a pilot assessment of water meters, in order to choose a more efficient type, since those 300 meters were taken from different suppliers.
